Alive in Christ

As Christ-followers, we are commanded and warned to stay focused, alert, mindful, and watchful. We are to fix our minds and set our thoughts on certain things.

We face several challenges:

  1. By nature, our minds and hearts are prone to wander.
  2. We have jobs and tasks that demand our attention.
  3. We have an enemy whose goal is to lead us away from God.
  4. Our culture is full of potential temptations, idols and entanglements.

Colossians 3:1-4  – Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.  For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.   When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

Although we have a part to play in setting our mind on things above, the real emphasis of this passage is on the work of Christ.  The first word, “therefore” refers back to all that was written in chapters one and two. Read those two chapters and reflect on what God through Christ has done for us.

  • He rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the Kingdom of Christ
  • He reconciled us to the Father, making peace through the blood of Christ
  • He made us complete in Christ
  • He gave us new life (we were dead in sin, but now we are alive, we arose with Christ)
  • He canceled the debt we owe and forgave all our sins

Therefore, in light of all that Christ has done, keep seeking the things above, the things that really matter in life.  You have been rescued from darkness, made right with God, fully reconciled and completed.  Your wholeness is found in Him, not the things of this world.  The old you is gone, and you are a brand new person in Christ.  You are forgiven, holy and blameless in His sight.  Though you face temptations and trials, Christ has already won the battle. So, live in victory and freedom.

Rise above daily circumstances by remembering who you are.  You are alive in Christ!
