All In

space In sports, “all-in” means giving it your best, and then some.  In marriage, “all-in” means, “I’m yours and you’re mine until death do us part.”  In poker, “all-in” means you are willing to risk everything to win the hand.  Full tilt!  Likewise, God calls us to be “all-in” in how we live and work.  Give it your absolute best, and then some.  Give it all you’ve got!  Don’t leave anything on the court.

Here is how Jesus put it:

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all your strength.  The second is this, ‘You shall love your neightbor as yourself.’  There is no other commandment greater than these.”  (Mark 12:30-31)

That’s ALL- in!  Observing people bringing their offerings to God, Jesus seized a teachable moment.  He contrasted the religious leaders (who were acting as though they were all-in but who were actually hypocrites) with a woman He saw who was definitely ALL- in.
“Sitting across from the temple treasury, He (Jesus) watched how the crowd dropped money into the treasury. Many rich people were putting in large sums. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two tiny coins worth very little. Summoning His disciples, He said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. For they all gave out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had —all she had to live on.”  (Mark 12:41-44)

What a way to live!  Loving God and others with everything we have. Good questions to ask are:

  • Am I all-in with God?  Does God have ALL of me?
  • Do I love God with ALL my heart, soul, mind and strength?
  • Am I giving God my best?
  • Where am I not all-in?  What’s holding me back?

I encourage you to live with an “ALL- IN” attitude.

“Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people, knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ.”  (Colossians 3:23-24)
