Fight the Good Fight

Fight the good fight of the faith.”   1 Tim 6:12

May I remind you that we are at war?  If you fail to recognize the battle, you are certain to lose.  Another way to lose is by fighting with the wrong weapons.

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.  The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”
2 Cor. 10:3-4

Inspired by The Lone Survivor, the true story of Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell who miraculously survived a mission in the desert hills of Afghanistan, here are two more parallels to OUR mission and spiritual journey.  The marketplace needs individuals who boldly and wisely fight for truth.

  1. Pain and difficult experiences prepare us for what’s to come.  Rigorous training and preparation are essential to being a great soldier.  SEAL’s go through “Hell Week” and much more, all designed to simulate future realities and prepare them for battle.  The Christian life is designed to produce “Spiritual SEAL’s.”  We are warriors, not wimps.
  • The road is narrow that leads to life and few are they who find it. Mt. 7:14
  • Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness.  1 Tim. 4:7
  • Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing your hard work and diligence are not in vain.  1 Cor. 15:58
  • No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.  Heb. 12:10-1

  1. We serve together.  Like the SEAL’s, we are designed and trained to serve in units or teams.  We strengthen one another and defend each other to the death.  No exceptions.  We are characterized by loyalty, brotherhood, unity, commitment and sacrifice.  We may disagree but nothing or no one will come between us.
  •  Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!   Eccl. 4:9-10
  • Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.  Galatians 6:1
  • Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.  Romans 12:10
  • “A new command I give you: Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”   John 13:34-35

Defend the faith and live victoriously.
