Purpose in Life

It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for.  Long before we first heard of Christ, … he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in evrything and everyone.  Ephesians 1:11 (Msg)

God has a purpose for each of our lives, and the good news is that as we walk closely with Him, we can know what He is calling us to do.  Ultimately, whatever He leads us to do or be, we are to reflect His glory.  God has uniquely gifted each of us, and we are on the earth to help carry out His plan.  So knowing His plan and where we fit in, is rather critical.  Always start with God’s plan rather than your plan.  Rather than asking, “what is God’s will for my life?”  a better question is, “what is God’s will and where do I fit in with what He is doing?”  Life is about God, not you or me.

Read about a man named Bezalel in Exodus 31.  Here God reminds us that all the gifts, talents and skills that we have came from Him.  This guy was given the skill of working with his hands to create artistic designs.  Why?  Because God needed to have some things made, and he chose Bezalel to make them.  Could God have created them Himself?  Sure, but He chose this man to get it done.  Could He have chosen someone else?  Sure, but he chose Bezalel.  Verse 2 – God called him by name.  Verse 3 – God filled him with the Spirit of wisdom, understanding and knowledge… and the skill to craft artistic designs.  In other words, he had a skill and he had supernatural help to understand what He was to do and the practical knowledge to do it.  Verse 6 – God appointed him, along with others to get the job done.  Today we would say, Bezalel was living the dream.  He felt chosen, called, gifted/skilled, and useful.  He had God’s vision for His life and that resulted in a clear purpose, and tons of passion and satisfaction.

Good questions to ask yourself:

  • What is God doing around the world and around me?  Where is He at work?
  • What is the prominent need in the above answer?
  • What am I uniquely equipped and positioned to accomplish?
  • How might God use the platforms, position, talents, and experiences He had entrusted to me to accomplish HIS plan?
  • Am I serving God’s purposes or have I lost my way and serving my own desires?  If so, change your focus immediately!

Take the time right now to recalibrate your thinking and motives.  You are who you are and where you are because of God.

Serve Him with gladness and gusto!
